MARCOS BRIDGE
The gateway to Sunshine City, (Laoag City), the Marcos Bridge, formerly Gilbert Bridge is one of the longest bridge in the entire country. Constructed in 1914 and named in honor of then acting Governor General Newton Gilbert, it was transformed into a four-lane bridge in 1983 and was renamed Marcos Bridge in honor of the late Don Mariano Marcos, father of the former President of the Philippines, His Excellency, the late Ferdinand Edralin Marcos. The rippling Padsan River flows freely underneath the bridge.
